threads::shared was broken out as a separate CPAN module because of the presense in blead of beneficial improvements to the threads::shared code that were added too late to be included in the Perl 5.8.8 maintenance release.

As of this posting, the current version of this module is 0.96, and incorporates the following improvements over the code found in Perl 5.8.8:
    'bless' is now supported on shared refs.
    Added 'is_shared' function.
    Updated POD.
